Zero no Tsukaima: Princesses no Rondo Review

The story is much more simple and focused. This season is about friendship and what it means to stick by your friend. Never once did it stray from this theme. I despised the whole “For Queen and Country” idea that is present in the second season because it was packed at the end and was never developed. The immaturity shown by Saito and his pathetic arguments also didn’t help. Bravo to the writers of this season for delivering a good consistent plot. In the third season Saito got it right and did he ever shine. His words resonated and I find I could relate to them. The same can be said about Louise. Her powers and relationship has been allowed to blossom.
Right from the beginning the relationship of Louise and Saito is prioritized. While I cringed at the character assassination of Siesta but seeing the chemistry of Louise and Saito made it all worth it. I enjoyed watching the insecurity portrayed by Louise. It is great comedy, and at the same time made Louise a very well portrayed character. The scene involving Queen Henrietta in the Masquerade party is one important example that made me conclude this anime has drastically improved.
The comedy is as funny as ever. Saito adds new women to his harem but heck all they do is add more to the fun.
Music is another category that I think deserves mentioning. The third season introduced some melodies that are spectacular. I strongly recommend listening to Koitte Modakashii and Lost in Love.
Lastly, why not 10? The main reason is that the finale is too rushed. It needed a second episode. They were squeezing a fight that should have taken a whole episode into five minutes. All the actions and dialogues seemed to have an accelerated feel. In one minute Saito can’t dent the bad guy’s armor; in the next he suddenly can; then another minute later an artillery can’t dent the bad guy; and so on. Overall the ending is satisfying but they could have done much better.
I once considered Zero no Tsukaima the dumb blonde’s Shakugan no Shana. I am sorely mistaken. With such an improvement Shakugan no Shana is the hillbilly cousin. Hence 9/10
