   The series get a bit boring after the first episodes, later on they get better (or maybe my tolerance simply went up).

   Especially the first season looks like an Eureka Seven clone, although it’s not as bad.

   What morale and philosophy it contains is either plain bullshit or delusional — but sadly that’s to be expected.

   Overall I’ll give the first season 5.5/10 and the second 4.5/10. The second season gets -0.5 for the disgusting totalitarian and misanthropic political implications at its beginning, and -0.5 for ending with a wedding (oops, spoiler!).

   Worth watching? Err, nope.

   This is definitely one of the best anime i’ve ever seen, up there with the likes of Cowboy Bepop and Elfen Lied. It’s amazing, burning with fighting spirit and GAR, you just can’t watch it, you have to experience it! Definately classic material.

   @npc: Dude, you have no idea what the fuck you’re talking about. If anything the first episodes are a little dull, then it gets more and more energetic. Eureka Seven is nothing compared to this anime, hell any other anime falls short compared to TTGL. This anime will go down as one of the greatest ever, so go off and diddle yourself to your Eureka loli somewhere else.

   npc is an idiot. This is one of the best shows out there. The art style/animation, action, and voice acting is top notch. I totally gave this an 11/10 for pure EPICNESS. You think you know what awesome is? You’ll find out that you had no idea what awesome is after watching this series.

   This is an excellent anime for those who know that you can’t take anything to seriously. The artwork is top notch, the characters are likable (or hatable), the dialogue is fun, from the cute gags to the inspirational speeches, and the soundtrack fits the scenes to a t. And the action is all one could want from a shonen anime. I strongly reccomend this to anyone who likes giant robots, over the top characters, and kicking reason to the curb.

   This Anime has completely revived my faith in the Mecha Genre. Prior to this show all I would ever see are anime such as Gundam Wing who take the entire concept way to seriously. Then along comes Gurren Lagann, with Kamina and Simon. This show turned the entire concept on its head. Epic battles, romance with a hint of humor, gut wrenching drama, hysterical comedy mixed with just a bit of bravado it tops my list of favorite animes.
   I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
   I would also like to point out that the “totalitarian and political implications” at the beginning of the second season is what gave it its impact. The whole way they posed that character in the way they did gave it much more meaning, (who would of expected HIM to have a desk-job?) It also muddles on the fact that humans are not perfect and that there will always be strife, but thats what helps us EVOLVE and grow. I wouldn’t have this show any other way.

   NPC you have no taste in anime then. This is the best anime of 07, I would say ever. It has everything, epic battle scenes, love scenes, non-lame main characters.

   Shut your mouth and go watch gay shit like naruto.

   This is one of the best anime I have ever seen, it easily won a place in my top five favorites. It starts off rather slow, but around episode 5 or 6 it really picks up. It’s above average til it hits the last 5-6 episodes, at which point it becomes so awesome words cannot accurately describe it. There were certain things I disliked, though I can’t say what without spoiling it. Overall I give it a 17/20, or 8.5/10. Given how strict my rating is consider that very high, in comparison FMA has a 16/20. If not for the slow start it could be even higher, on the other hand once you get past that slow start, there’s nothing but greatness ahead of you.

    There will never be another anime that will compare to how much I enjoyed Gurren Lagann. This anime has made me think lower of anime series now because it was just so epic. In comparison to this, most anime series’ except for the really good ones aren’t worth watching.

    @NPC, I completely cannot understand how you do not like this anime series, several friends who like action, comedy, romance genres of anime all loved it dearly. As the many people here have suggested, there MUST be something wrong with you. Like pajama’s said, go watch gay shit like Naruto. If you don’t like high quality anime, then don’t watch this.

    Friggin awesome. This series was so hilariously badass and over-the-top; I just loved it.
    Epic action sequences and a surprisingly sad, poignant ending make this anime a must-see.

    Epic is not even good enough for this show. I’ve seen many anime as great as this like having a slow start (btw guys ALL anime have a slow start at one point). Think about it like this…you have a song playing a nice soft melody but then breaks into the greatest song you ever heard.

    Many anime have a very great storyline like Eureka Seven that has good action, romance, and plot however the main problem why it’s bad is because the ending isn’t thrown right. This anime however will be my #1 anime because of how great they did the ending. OHOH and how they made they last episode for one purpose (not spoiling it) Just plain ball popping…you’ll love it……except for npc (I thank you for your honesty we can’t like them all sadly)

    Anyone else who come by just to see it. WATCH IT!!! It’s soooo worth it you’ll be having goosebumps every 5 min from the the speeches xD

    WOW This series was good it was definetly worth the WATCH! 5/5 for sure… i loved how it actually changed time periods and changed the looks… but SPOILER* It sucks hard how Nia has to die in the end… the ending would of been perfect for me if they had lived together after they won… Still it was epic and it had great music to go along with it. My second or maybe even my favorite compared to Code Geass

    I have to say that this anime is amazing, its mech form (somewhat mech since it also spiritual o.o) the intense emotions of love, depression, fear, hope and courage, the philosophy through out the anime all fits in perfectly. It’s like part gundam, evangelion, and flcl =] It’s just so amazing. It’s a must for a real anime lover A MUST!!!!!!! i give it a 100/10, it might be alot but hey its my opinion. I really do like the action but its more of the philosophy’s behind anime and its lessons that intrigue me the most *-*

    i love this anime!!! though i can definitely say i am a mecha-type loving anime addict…like gundam or code geass (except for eva, its an all time fave) dont get me wrong, these animes have amzing art designs and plotting but wars and seriousness i cant take….so here’s tengen toppa gurren lagann….very comical and hilarious, reminds me of dead leaves, but still gives you dat battle scenes you want to see and has alot of unexpected events while ur still laughing….KAMINAAAAAAAAAAAAA! dammit dats all i have to say…. i reccomend this one for yah!!!

    I do believe though that if kamina never did leave (sorry for the spoiler) that nime wouldve been hyped up all the time >< damn it i missed that guy since he left, so much depression. Never the less i guess when he did leave it made everyone strong. But i wonder how it would’ve made the series different if kamina stayed and got with yoko :(

    Not bad, but not ‘Omgz teh best.’

    The first five episodes are a bit rough, but get past that and it’s better.

    My only real complaint is that they seem to crunch too much into each show. Good because you can pretty much pick up and go, but bad if you want a little more than a feel good lesson.

    Without a doubt, it is “OMGZ TEH BEST.”

    Gurren Lagann improves on the age-old formula of super mecha, utilizing classic nuances such as spirit-powered mecha, the important lesson of honesty and good intentions, and having mecha that use signature special moves (GIGA DRILL BREAKER), but at the same time, it completely reinvigorates the mecha genre with a great sense of humor, unforgettable characters (no one, I mean NO ONE will ever forget Kamina if they truly believe they are a man), and overall, a great (if overly dramatic) story that at it’s most basic, is just about a boy becoming a man, and I think just about every male mecha fan can identify with that.

    So yeah, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Definitely the best anime of 2007. Hell, I’d say it was the best anime of 2008 as well (not too many good anime this year other than Code Geass R2 and Macross). Gurren Lagann has established itself a legacy and a reputation that will never be forgotten, and if you too would like to find out what everyone is clamoring about, I highly recommend giving Gurren Lagann a watch.

    Also, you’re not a real man if you don’t watch it. ;D

    I do not agree with the npc’s opinion about this anime, it’s an awesome anime, it has everything you could ask for, action, comedy, romance, and a no chance of succes for the heros. This was defentitly one of the better animes i’ve seen. i think they did an awesome job with it and more animes should be like this one.

    Defiantly one of my favorite animes of all time. The series defiantly starts off slow but if you can get to episode three and through episode four (I would recommend not watching this if it didn’t introduce some main characters, its a shame because the episode is done so poorly in comparison) you should be fine. The series has epic action, heart felt moments, amazing music, fan service, inspirational speeches, good (though sometimes cheesy) characters, and even some political themes. Gurren Lagann is definitely NOT serious and fans of hard sci-fi and military stories will not appreciate techno-babble and robots that run on a mans fighting spirit. All in all the series is amazing and doesn’t drag on too long.

    Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is definitely worth watching! And yes, this series is the best anime in 2007 for sure. And no, this series is not for people who use their brains too hard because, the theme is about kicking reason to the curb. Such a shame if they even think to that extent.

    The series folds everything nicely and the ending, even though it could be defined as a disappointment, but that’s the only ending I could have foreseen if I were the crews animators 8( I don’t even believe that this series actually could wrap things with only 27 episodes.

    It’s definitely worth to watch it! It’s rare to watch such a well-made anime like this - actions, drama, storyline, characters, music, etc, all are done wonderfully!

    The movies, which could deliver better explanation and actions and all will be out soon and I couldn’t wait to watch it!

    I overall loved everything about this anime the freaking animation, how the character were drawn, the story, and especially the great and oh so sad ending :’[

    Also, If you liked this anime then I recommend you watch “Soul Eater” another great anime kind of similar like this… in a way.. :D

    The first part when the characters were young was pretty good but it kind of lost it when it went to the arc of them all being older and the ending kind of sucked a little bit as well so I guess I’ll give it a 6/10 or being a good overall anime ^ -^; So its really worth watching.

    Gurren Lagann is an OK anime. There’s nothing special about it. I’d have to say the art and characters are fun, but the story’s boring (the concept of mankind’s struggle against a force that wants to destroy us because we’re progressing too quickly has been done to death), the fanservice is unnecessary, and it tries too much to be everything all at once.

    I’ve had far more fun watching the Macross franchise, which in my opinion has a far better storyline and universe.

    I guess people like things too easily these days. I blame it on too much hype. Guess me and NPC are those who have a better sense of entertainment.

    LOL. Hadn’t read all the comments in reaction to mine; I guess I hit a nerve somewhere.

    In retrospective, perhaps what irked me most with this anime (not the only thing by far) was the idea that, whenever one is in a hopeless, dead-end situation, all one needs to do is shout “POWA OV DA SPIRAL!!!1one” and every problem is solved automagically. If snobbing such bullshit means that I have no taste and do need to get laid… well, then I guess I have no taste and do need to get laid.

    Furthermore, I cannot help but find amusing how many people relate this series’ story to the concept of “being a Man”. For, if I remember correctly, most of the plot revolves around DESTROYING things by DRILLING THROUGH them. Need I really say more?

    Don’t get me wrong. I know that TTGL is an epic and well-done anime. It’s just that it’s stupid, and that its message and morale are crap. If that weren’t the case, it would indeed make a good shounen mecha anime.

    Haha, right on! I’ve seen more manlier men in Space Battleship Yamato, or practically any anime by Leiji Matsumoto, which this series fails at being. Other examples of manlier anime include Fist of The North Star (a shit series in my opinion but at least the guys in it are real men), Great Teacher Onizuka, Dragonball, Getter Robo, and Devilman.

    Most of Gurren Lagann’s ‘men’ were pansies or comic relief. Don’t get me wrong, we don’t hate the show, we think it’s popularity is blown completely out of proportion.

    I saw a TTGL-based doujinshi some time ago, where a Nia-clone was having her rectum worked with various types drills by the turtle-character from the first season of TTGL, before being penetrated in the same place by an über-stallion-sized Beastmen King.
    While ramming her surprisingly supple anus, he kept shouting: “resist the spiral! Resist the spiral!”.

    I thought the author captured the spirit of TTGL very well.
