Peach Girl Review

It’s romantic shoujo anime in it’s purest, undiluted form, meaning hard core angst! It’s a romantic rollercoater ride and for all fans of that genre of anime, this is a must watch!
Animation: Beautiful animation. Bright vivid colours, wonderful backgrounds, everything is so well detailed, you could almost imagine yourself being there.
The character design is very true to it’s original manga origins. Some people have complained about the characters full lips, but this is how Miwa Ueda envisioned her characters to look. You can’t complain about the ideas of the manga-ka *lol*
The guys in this anime are soooooo good looking, the girls are pretty, but it’s not one of those anime where everyone looks the same and there aren’t any plain or dunpy characters, because there are!
It doesn’t get a full 10/10 because there are a few scenes where the characters look a little distorted.
Sound: I love the op theme song, it’s so catchy and I love the lyrics. It’s one of those songs, where I personally never get tired of hearing it and infact, when the opening credits roll and the song plays, you know an episode of Peach Girl is coming and I get very excited *lol*
The ending theme is lovely as well, a little melancholy.
The BGM is fantastic, Sae has her own piece of evil sounding music that’s very amusing, as does Ryo, but his is a little sexy!
The voice acting is above par, it’s just perfect.
My dream of hearing it done as an English dub, may never be fulfilled, but I think Crispin Freeman would make a perfect Touji ^_^
Storyline: Updated 15/08/05
Well it a typical tale of teenage romance, which never runs smoothly (in life, as well as anime!). Momo never seems to be truly happy, her love life is like a stormy sea, with more ups and downs than a rollercoaster! No sooner has she achieved her goal, than her dreams are shattered. She has to put up the with evil schemeing of her “so called” friend, Sae, but the Sae eliment is what keeps this story going, without her it would be a 40 minute OVA!
There’s not really anything new in the concept of the story, but that doesn’t matter, it’s the execution of said story that makes this so wonderful. The cliff hanger episodes will have you anxiously awaiting the next installment!
Up to episode 19, the story is following a good routine, nothing has yet been concluded. There’s plenty of angst, tears, but also some very joyful moments.
This truly is shoujo at it’s best.
Sadly my favourite anime of 2005 has now ended and what an ending! It was wonderful, perfect and beautifully done. The emotions felt by Momo, Touji and Kairi had me welling up and desperately wanting to cry. The final scene, bringing the whole story to a 360degree conclusion was wonderful and so heartfelt.
One thing I can honestly say now, is if you are a true shoujo fan you will love Peach Girl and know now it has the most wonderful, romantic ending imagineable ^_^
Characters: Every character is truly wonderful!
Momo: the sun tanned girl who has been mistakingly labelled as a tart. She’s sweet and loveable. I really feel for her throughout the whole show. I keep crying, “will she never be happy?”! She has a wonderful fashion sense (for a change!) and her heart really does rule her head, which is why it’s broken so many times in this anime.
Sae: OMG! what an evil, evil beyatch! She a very convincing, coniving, evil little mare! For at least 3/4 of what I’ve seen so far, you have to hate her, there is no other choice! You realise a little later, that really she is just to be pitied. She’s a lonely young girl, looking for a place to belong and for someone to love her. I’m starting to melt a little towards her now, but we’ll have to wait and see!
Touji: he starts off as such a pillock! His intentions are good, but it’s how he executes them that’s debatable! Honestly should be his best policy and at least half of Momo’s problems would never have been! Underneath the tough exterior though he is infact much sweeter than you at first realise.
Kairi: he’s gorgeous! He starts off as a very comical guy, getting Momo into trouble for one reason and another, but he’s genuine and open and has a little too much insider knowledge of how a girls mind and heart works! However, this is all a cover, deep down he’s none of those things, deep down, he’s very troubled.
Those are the 4 main characters and I love them all! There are some other lesser characters, that bring this whole show together, that are just as wonderful! There’s Kairi’s brother, Ryo, the gigolo. Misao, the schocol nurse, who is so unaware of the things going on around her. Everyone is wonderful!
I look forward to watching Peach Girl and it’s the only fansub I watch the second I finish downloading it!
It’s my favourite anime of 2005 and it’s filled with the ingredients to make a perfect anime, in my eyes! Romance, friendship, cute guys, teenage longings (which bring back some wonderful and not so wonderful, memories of my past!). I am looking forward to the day when it’s finished, so that I can sit and watch it all in one go ^_^
You have to be a true hardcore fan of angsty teenage romances to truly enjoy this, if that’s not your thing, then steer clear, as you’ll be irritated and frustrated all at the same time!
