Story
One day, while eating lunch with her friend, Hitotsubashi Yurie tells her friend that she became a god the previous night. For the most part, Mitsue, her friend, doesn’t believe her, but another girl, upon hearing this, rushes over to try to see if shes really a god. She is Matsuri, a local shrine maiden at the Raifuku Shrine, and knows a little bit about things. And… thats pretty much the story. Each episode tells a experience that Yurie experiences whether it be with human problems, experiences with other gods, or just weird things in general.
Characters
All the characters were enjoyable. Yurie is just a shy middle-school girl who tries to live a normal life with the added duties as a god. Its interesting to note that shes pretty much like any other regular middle schooler. She sometimes just lounges in her pajamas for an entire day and just enjoys spending time with her friends. Her friends and family all have their own personalities that all seem real. Its easy to connect with any one of the characters since they all react realistically (well, to a certain extent. For some reason, they all take the news that Yurie is a god and martins have landed quite well, with near to none reaction) to everything that happens to them. Yurie also has a good deal of character development as she goes through the story.
Art/Animation
Excellent. This anime doesn’t use any “chibi” or deformed versions of the characters and retains their appearance throughout the story, no matter what is happening. Character designs are nice and a lot of detail is given when doing anything, though its most noticeable when they are talking. Landscapes are also great, since you get a lot of sweeping shots of the town that this show takes place in. Also has a lot of excellent animation. Everything is paid attention to and animated beautifully.
Music/Sound Effects
The music and the sound effects are just incredible. It helps give the relaxed, laid-back feeling that this show gives off. Music is quite good, especially the opening and the ending theme. OP has a laid back feeling to it, while the ending is upbeat and fun to listen to (also, the 3 main characters playing instruments to the beat of the music makes it probably the only ED I actually watch through. Dunno, its all very interesting since Matsuri on the drums, Yurie with the maracas, and Mitsue on guitar is very mesmerizing to watch).
Overall
I really enjoyed this story. Every episode is a one-shot episode and events (besides the history it happened) don’t really carry over into the next episode. But the series makes up for it by making every single episode around 25 minutes each and some even up to 30 near the end. Each episode is a heartwarming one as Yurie either encounters a problem or something new happens. Things may seem a little chiché, but the acting and context keep it from getting cheesy, which plagues many other anime.
I, again, truly enjoy this anime. It lacks action and is more of just watching someone living their life, but if that doesn’t matter to you, then I whole-heartedly recommend this anime.
