Ginban Kaleidoscope Review

I have just finished watching the series and I must say it was quite good. The synopsis given in the series description is very true to the theme of the series, that a Japanese Olympic Figure Skater hopeful (Tazusa) is playing host to a Candian Stunt Pilot (Peter) after they have a co-incidental accident of sorts simultaneously.
Initially, the action in the series was very slow, but it was a good lead up, showing the processes and the pressures that olympic atheletes must endure to excel at their sport. Through the short 12 episodes, you really learn about how much pressure figure skaters have upon them, especially when competition is fierce in getting selected. The depiction of the savagery of the media is also very true to heart.
In terms of artwork, it is simple, but effective. Many of the scenes with the interaction between Tazusa and Pete are very very basic, but it draws the attention to their interaction instead of dazzling background work. In the skating scenes however, the artwork and glitter come out to play and really help the effects so that the viewer can feel the “magic” that is figure skating.
The music is reasonable and assists in setting the mood early on, so when you hear a particular peice you know what is going on with Tazusa’s personality.
The character depiction is excellent as Tazusa is definitely not your run of the mill girl, and her journey with Pete really develops.
I liked the ending, but felt that it could have easily had a twist or two thrown in, but there was sufficient closure for my liking, unlike some other series of late that shall not be mentioned.
So if you enjoy some figure skating, and some quirky ghost-in-someone-elses-body fun, then this series is for you to enjoy.
