La Corda D’Oro Review

This is my review of LA CORDA D’ ORO.
Never did I imagine that this anime was a reverse harem, thinking that I’d be like BECK with classical music (big mistake the opening alone should have been a big clue…) I was a bit skeptical by the first episode…
Quite frankly, I found it a bit boring… but as soon as the heroine pops up into view, I decided to give it a shot (what can I say, I’m a sucker for cute girls hahaha) and thank heavens I did, beneath the girly girl exterior (READ GIRL MEN) lies a lighthearted story of passion for music.
The first few episodes seems a drag at times and for someone who receives a magical violin, Kahoko seems a bit burdened rather than excited.
As i said earlier this anime is a reverse harem, one girl, multiple boys ranging from your typical goof to the usual “evil”guy, this show hosts a range of cliched male archetypes common in anime (heck one dude acts like he’s high all the time) not that these guys don’t have their own personality, it’s just that it has a “been there, done that feel” to it heck, even the main heroine gets annoying with her conscious attacks.
If you’re looking for romance, this anime is not for you, this show barely has that “rabu-rabu” feel to it and each guy’s moment with Kahoko never really explores why they feel for her or if she likes any of them back (or maybe I’m just too dense >.<) but on the flip side, the lack of romance actually helped focus more on the musical part of the story (besides, no one really gets chosen in a harem right?) what I mean is if you’re thinking this is a romantic comedy anime with music then you’re looking at the wrong anime.
Where this anime really shines is the music, during each character’s shining moment at the stage, you’ll fall in love with the music. From piano to the violin, every song is done in sync with fluid animation (my favorite is Hino’s version of canon, though it’s a bit short ^^).
Overall this is a light hearted anime that really shines in the end, it never tries to be too serious and it has its moments, though its not as great as those shows I mentioned above, La CORDA D’ ORO has someting to offer for everyone who wants to enjoy another musically themed anime.
